One of the Ribble Valley’s best loved eateries was transformed into a feast of fashion during a charity event to raise funds for children and families in crisis.
The Three Fishes restaurant at Mitton welcomed dozens of people through its doors when it played host to the “Flavours of Autumn” fashion event run by Whalley-based independent ladies’ wear brand Maureen Cookson.
The event, which included a prosecco reception followed by fashion show, afternoon tea and silent auction, raised more than £1,000 for Child Action Northwest (CANW).
CANW will use the funds to support their Raised in the Ribble Valley initiative, a service which provides free specialist therapeutic counselling for people who have experienced emotional trauma.
The scheme, part of CANW’s Jigsaw counselling service, helps children, young people and adults with a wide range of issues including loss and bereavement, domestic abuse, anger management issues and addictions, and is supported by fundraising activities, events and voluntary donations.
The fashion show is the first of three events The Three Fishes is presenting over the next few months as part of their support for CANW as their chosen charity for 2016. Other upcoming events include a gala dinner in October and a gin tasting evening in November.
Martin Hartley-Smith, business and marketing director at CANW, added: “We are delighted with the support we’ve had for the event, particularly from The Three Fishes and from Hilary and the team from Maureen Cookson.
“It was a fantastic afternoon, everyone we spoke to really enjoyed it and was interested to learn more about CANW and the vital work we do. We are now looking forward to the gala dinner and gin tasting, which we believe will be equally as enjoyable.”
Speaking after the event Hilary Cookson, managing director of Maureen Cookson, said: “There was a fabulous gathering of local businesses supporting CANW at the first event in conjunction with The Three Fishes. The food looked lovely, and we were delighted with the reception from the ladies.
“The feedback was immediately positive, with ladies coming straight to our shop in George Street, Whalley, to try on outfits seen during the afternoon. We hope the rest of the planned events are as successful.”
