Longridge Business Group’s chairman for the past three years, Carole Hart, organised her final customer voucher presentation before retiring from the post.

At a special general meeting held after the announcement, however, no member of the LBG committee stepped forward to succeed her.

In a statement afterwards, she said “having served as Chair for over three years along with other tasks within the Business Group, I decided that constitutionally it was the right time for me to retire and relinquish those responsibilities.

“Nomination forms were distributed to the entire group, not just seeking nominations for the chair but also additional committee members. Nobody within the group sought the nomination as chair...as a result, the committee will meet over the coming weeks to decide on the way forward.

“If, for whatever reason, members have overlooked the nomination process then they should contact Angela Singleton the group’s secretary on angela@828law.co.uk as quickly as possible.

“It is somewhat disappointing that nobody in the business community has taken on the opportunity to lead the group. We have 59 members, a website that delivers over 1600 unique users per month to the town’s businesses and a thriving local shopping scheme.

“I truly believe a new chair could invigorate the group and build on the successes we have achieved. I’d hoped that willing members would be found to carry the group forward, but when the committee has agreed this, we will communicate it to the membership.”

Before the meeting, Carole Hart had seen this month’s winner of the Longridge Does Shopping customer card scheme, Sandra Vinden, receive her £50-vouchers prize from LBG member Mark Delaney, owner of Travel Circle.

Sandra, who lives in Alston, says she shops mainly in Longridge and has collected her stamps in the local businesses of Charisma, the Health Food Shop and the Longridge Gallery.

She aims to use her vouchers for a wedding later this year.
