A top business leader has shown his support for the Clitheroe market redevelopment scheme.
Michael Damms, chief executive of the Chamber of Commerce East Lancashire, said: “The council has clearly been ambitious for Clitheroe, but clearly not at any cost; the development should be able to combine modernity with tradition and thereby preserve the character of the town.”
He added: “Barnfield, and their managing director and chairman, Tim Webber, are not casually chosen; they are local and they have a record of caring for the area and sympathetic developments.
“Clitheroe is a jewel in the area and this, combined for example with the improved train service to the south and Manchester that will commence next year, has the potential to enhance its offer and reputation further. One of the charms of Clitheroe is its local shops and market stalls, so we are pleased that there’s a commitment to invest in them.”
The chamber chairs a Ribble Valley Business Leaders’ Group which involves some of the borough’s prominent business-people.
