Ben in running for nation’s top hospitality award

A trainee manager from Clitheroe has secured himself a place in the finals to compete for the most prestigious award available to young chefs in the hospitality industry.

Ben Rushworth (22) who works at the Parkers Arms in Newton, beat off stiff competition to reach the finals of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts Awards of Excellence in the service category.

He will compete in the northern finals against some of the country’s youngest industry hopefuls at the famous five starred Gleneagles Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland in May.

Judges set a high standard of excellence competitors have to achieve and the winners in each catgeory will receive cash prizes of up to £2,000 and a bursary from the Savoy Educational Trust to fund a trip abroad to enchance professional experience.

Parkers Arms chef and owner Stosie Madi said: “We are delighted and extremely proud of Ben’s achievement. We strive to support, train and motivate future industry hopefuls and Ben has all the team rooting for him and fingers crossed he brings it home for Clitheroe.’’
