And a further 15 discount sale and 12 shared ownership bungalows and two and three-bedroom houses will be made available at the development in due course.

Monk’s Cross is developed by David Wilson, which specialises in building energy-efficient homes.

A further 24 two and three-bedroom properties will be also offered for discount sale or shared ownership at Abbeyfields in Hayhurst Road, Whalley, over the coming months.

Simon Hore, chairman of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s health and housing committee, said: “The provision of affordable housing is one of the council’s biggest challenges and we are working closely with developers and housing partners to address the problem.

“We are delighted to have supported these excellent schemes, which will make much-needed high-quality properties available to residents with a local connection for affordable rent, shared ownership or sale.”
