Fingers and feet were tapping as singers, young and old enjoyed a pint with some gusto as they sang along to a selection of popular hymns at the first in a series of “Hymns and Beer” themed events.

Held at the Lower Buck at Waddington on Sunday evening, all the hymns, including the “Battle Hymn of the Republic”, were lead by Peter Cunliffe on the piano, accompanied by Ian Harrison on guitar, Campbell Barker on the banjo and the enthusiastic playing of free kazoos.

Entertainingly introduced by the Rev. David Banbury, the Mission Support Leader for the Diocese of Blackburn, these informal monthly sing-alongs will be roughly hour long regular monthly events held on the second Sundays of each month at 7-30 pm. They will be sponsored by St Helen’s with St Catherine’s Churches and will be based around several hymn themes including patriotic, gospel, and hymns sung on the terraces at sporting events.
