New road closure headaches

MOTORISTS and others travelling between Longridge and Broughton via Goosnargh and Whittingham face further headaches next week when another road closure comes into force.
A stretch of Cumeragh Lane - the B5269 - will be closed between Halfpenny Lane and Brabiner Lane as work progresses on refurbishment of the Hodder water main from Monday, March 17 for four weeks between Cumeragh House and Sunnybank House.
Contractors Balfour Beatty confirmed this week there will be no temporary traffic lights allowing for through traffic at this spot, although access to all properties will be available throughout the works.
An alternative route for light and local traffic between Whittingham and Longridge will be via Camforth Hall Lane, Ashley Lane and Inglewhite Road; heavy goods vehicles are to be diverted via Grimsargh and bus routes throughout the area face alteration.
Good news for commuters, however, is that work on Whittingham Lane, causing the closure of the B5269 outside A and A Metalcraft at Goosnargh is due to be finished by Wednesday, March 12, and a spokesman for Balfour Beatty said they were aiming for the road to be open at this point by Thursday if not before.
For those planning to use public transport while Cumeragh Lane is closed, bus service 4 will still serve Goosnargh Village Green but not the section of route between the Stags Head and Longridge. Buses travelling from Broughton along Whittingham Lane towards Goosnargh will stay on Whittingham Lane - instead of turning left into Langley Lane - turning left into Church Lane, left into Goosnargh Lane, right into Langley Lane and then right onto Inglewhite Road to Longridge, with the same route in reverse for the journey from Longridge back towards Broughton. Service 4 will not run between Longridge and Chipping and those who would normally use this service will be able to call a 'demand response taxi' which will offer a door to door service along the no 4 route. Passengers are asked to contact 2 B Travel on 01772 780688 or Irelands Taxis on 01772 785534 for this service with through ticketing and connections onto service 4. It will also issue Ribble Valley Day Ranger tickets and accept NOW Concessionary Cards. Passengers must book their journey 24 hours before they wish to travel.
For those living between the Stag's Head and Cumeragh and Brabiner lanes, there will be no scheduled service, but potential passengers are asked to contact the Dial a Bus - Ride service offered through Preston Community Transport on 01772-204667, 48 hours in advance of any journey they may wish to make.
A spokesman for LCC said that if anyone had any problems or wanted any further information they should ring the enquiry line - 08712002233.
He said bus timetables would be available at bus stops throughout the area with service 4 running at approximately the same times, adding that LCC were currently in discussions with operators over school transport.
* All concerned about the forthcoming road closure between Longridge and Chipping due to works on the same water main are being invited to attend a public meeting in Chipping Village Hall on Monday, March 17 at the revised time of 8.15pm.
