SAINSBURY'S has announced there will be new job opportunities when the supermarket giant opens its new store in Longridge.
It has not been confirmed how many jobs will be created but a spokesman for Sainsbury's said they expected new employees would be taken on to help run the store when it opens in spring.
The new store is part of a major investment plan by the retaile
r, which has pumped millions into opening new branches across Lancashire.
When Garstang's Somerfield store was taken over by Sainsbury's last June 30 new jobs were created.
Somerfield off Inglewhite Road closed its doors at the weekend and a major transformation and re-branding exercise has already begun.
The refurbishment will take around six weeks to complete, during which time the store will be closed.
The full and part-time staff at the Somerfield store are all being taken on by Sainsbury's and will undergo re-training while the new store is refitted.
The spokesman said the refurbishment would vastly improve shopping facilities and offer a bigger product range. The new store will boast a meat and fish counter, a deli counter, bakery, self-scan checkouts and an ATM.
An official opening date for the new store is yet to be confirmed but the spokesman said it was likely to be in mid- March.
They continued: "We look forward to welcoming our new colleagues, their quality skills and local experience will be of great benefit to Sainsbury's.
"Playing an active part in local communities has ensured Sainsbury's has been around for 140 years and, throughout the refurbishment, we will work with local representatives to ensure our contribution to Longridge is a positive one."
