A LIFELINE service helping the elderly and vulnerable in the Longridge area is appealing for volunteer drivers to help the scheme move forward.
Ribble Valley's community transport team already runs the Little Green Bus service which, from Mondays to Fridays, takes passengers from around Longridge and the Valley area for shopping or appointments.
Now it is aiming to revitalise its volunteer community car scheme for those not able to use the Little Green Bus but still needing transport to shops, hospitals or social appointments.
A spokesperson explained "We are the facilitators of the bus scheme on behalf of Lancashire County Council but at the moment, for our community car scheme, have no volunteer drivers in Longridge and surrounding areas.
"They would help us provide a lifeline service for those who cannot get out by bus, enabling them to go shopping, visit friends or relatives, anything they need.
"Volunteers would use their own cars and stipulate the times they are available. We give full training and official checking through our induction programme, and they would help greatly with this special scheme."
She added that Little Green Bus (Ribble Valley Community Transport), which has been running now for five years, is a social enterprise which operates on a not-for-profit basis.
"The organisation provides door-to-door transport to mainly elderly and sometimes vulnerable members of the community, for the purpose of accessing retail services and health-related appointments as well as social and leisure opportunities.
"Our aim is to promote a 'greener' way to travel, whilst helping people who may feel socially excluded to enjoy some independence and enabling them to use services that they would otherwise struggle to access.
"We operate Monday to Friday transporting passengers around the Ribble Valley. To use the service you need a NoW Card (bus pass) and must complete a membership application form."
