A 20-year-old Ribchester man asked police if they would give him a lift home after drinking in Longridge.
But later in the night when police noticed that Adam Whitlock's car had gone they put two and two together and got drink driver.
Blackburn magistrates heard that Whitlock was arrested close to his home and later gave a breathalyser reading of 50 against the legal limit of 35.
Whitlock, 20, of Fort Avenue, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was fined £200 with £65 costs and banned from driving for 14 months.
Liz Parker, defending, said when Whitlock spoke to the police and asked for a lift it was obvious he had been drinking.
She said Whitlock worked as a panel beater and may lose his employment as a result of the driving ban.
