A PROLIFIC burglar who committed dozens of offences in Longridge to fund his heroin addiction has been told he must not enter the town for three years.
Nathan James Redmond, 34, had previously been banned from certain areas of the town under lesser Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs), but has now been hit with a tough new order that says he can't set foot in Longridge until 2011.
The three-year ASBO was imposed as Redmond was released from prison last month.
He had served seven months of a two-year sentence imposed in December last year after admitting carrying out two burglaries in Longridge while on bail.
He also asked Preston Crown Court to take into consideration another five burglaries, two thefts and two ASBO breaches, as well as failing to answer bail.
The court heard Redmond had 60 previous offences on his record, including other house burglaries, and he targeted houses, sheds, businesses and cars.
Redmond had been a heroin addict who was taking bags of the drug a day at the height of his drug abuse, but had now become drug free while being held in custody, the court was told.
He was told at the time of his sentencing last year that police would be applying for a further ASBO to coincide with his release from prison.
PC Russ Sutton said: "Redmond was given an ASBO in order to protect the people of Longridge and their property. He must not enter the town for three years and I would urge anyone who sees him to contact police.
"Hopefully this order will go some way in reassuring the local community and prevent repeat incidents of this kind of behaviour, improving the quality of life for local residents."
Anyone who sees Redmond or has any information or concerns about crime and disorder is asked to contact police on 01254 51212 or Longridge Police Station on 01772 209583
