MUMS and dads of under-fives in Longridge are counting down to the opening of their new Children's Centre.
The long-awaited Willows Park Children's Centre - currently operating at the Civic Hall in Calder Avenue and at a number of other venues - is due to be fully operational in September.
Lancashire County Council staff have already been active in the area to kick-start services for young families and to build partnerships within the local community.
Centre manager Sandra Simpson said: "We're delighted to be working in this new area. We know there will be challenges to face but we have a very experienced and highly skilled staff team who are dedicated to providing quality services.
"Currently we are providing family outreach services, a counselling service, healthy lifestyles group, family learning sessions and a very successful teatime dads group. We already have 146 families registered, with 240 children.
"Results of our consultation were very positive with professionals looking forward to working with us and families looking forward to the development of the Children's Centre.
"Our programme for the future includes a range of summer activities which will be advertised through the local parent and child groups.
"But it's early days yet and we're looking forward to expanding our services when the centre is officially open."
The team in Longridge has already arranged consultation events at a variety of venues and made excellent links with Ribblesdale Children's Centre in Clitheroe, the Longridge health visiting team, local midwives, schools and parent and child groups.
The area being covered includes Chipping, Grimsargh, Goosnargh, Ribchester, Mellor, Whitechapel and surrounding areas.
Willows Park is in the second phase of children's centres to be established in Lancashire, and will be managed from Preston East Children's Centre which already has five years' knowledge and experience.
