A JOBS boost is promised for Longridge with the opening today (Wednesday) of the new £9.5m state-of-the-art care home complex on the former Fell View site.
Up to 50 new jobs will be created at what is hailed as one of the UK's most advanced facilities specialising in care for the elderly.
The twin-designed development is to be run as Longridge Hall and Longridge Lodge, purpose-built for 30 residents in
each section, providing general residential care at the Hall and specialist dementia care at the Lodge for both local authority funded and private residents.
Owner, Orchard Care Homes, hopes to recruit people from the surrounding area and says a variety of roles are available including deputy managers, senior carers, carers, housekeepers and cooks.
Human resources manager Lucy Sagcan explained: "This is a great opportunity to forge a career in a highly rewarding role. We are big believers in career development and we offer real opportunities to progress.
"Almost a third of the managers in our 35 homes began their careers with us as carers and we are opening another 23 homes across the north over the next 12 months."
She added that experience was not always necessary, training would be given when needed to give the right skills and greater ability and confidence for staff.
This coming Sunday, July 20, the complex is opening its doors and inviting the public to a special family open day to look round the premises before residents move in.
Between 10.30am and 4.00pm staff will give tours, answer questions and serve refreshments, and visitors can see the homes' design using the latest research into care for the elderly, right down to the specially landscaped sensory gardens.
Operations director Phil Tomlinson said: "This will give people the chance to come and have a good look around to see the advances we are making in care for the elderly.
"Everyone is welcome whether you are looking for the right care home, thinking about moving from an existing care home or even considering a career in care.
"And if you are so impressed that you want to book in straight away we will also have a team on hand to give you advice and guide you through the assessment and admission process."
The official opening today is exclusively for healthcare professionals and press.
