Bounty for bidders as Dukes sells ship

All aboard: Cameron James, Ben and Daniel Sumsion play on the HMS Hispaniola, one of the more unusual items in The Dukes Diamond Dinner charity auction

All aboard: Cameron James, Ben and Daniel Sumsion play on the HMS Hispaniola, one of the more unusual items in The Dukes Diamond Dinner charity auction

Ahoy there - a pirate ship which played a starring role at a Lancaster theatre recently could soon be yours.

The Hispaniola was the centrepiece of the set for Treasure Island which entertained thousands of people at The Dukes over Christmas.

The unique piece of scenery could soon be sailing its way to a garden or play area as it is one of the main attractions of a charity auction which takes place at a Dukes’ fundraising event on March 16.

Other ‘must have’ items in the auction include a fortnight in a South African holiday home during whaling season and a unique architectural tour of Berlin in the company of the architects who designed the prizewinning London Olympic 2012 shooting arena.

Organisers hope the Dukes’ Diamond Charity Dinner will be the most stylish, sophisticated event in Lancashire this year.

The night of ‘sheer elegance’ at The Midland in Morecambe will have only one dress code – fabulous. As well as the charity auction, the evening will feature a three course dinner, wine, live band, entertainment and dancing.

Tickets, priced £75, are available from The Dukes box office on 01524 598500 or visit www.dukes-lancaster.org.

All proceeds will support The Dukes Creative Learning Department which works with 5,000 young people annually and is rated outstanding by the Arts Council.
