Young performers: Rossall School students at The St Marys Church Mardi Gras Concert in Goosnargh

A hint of New Orleans came to Goosnargh with the arrival of a Mardi Gras concert by Rossall School students at St Mary’s Church.

The traditional USA festival - meaning Fat Tuesday - was celebrated by the school’s singers and instrumentalists on the UK’s own Pancake Tuesday with a packed audience in the church.

Led by Margaret Young with organist Stuart Corrie, the musicians were aged from eleven in Year 7 to 18-plus in the upper sixth,

Their varied and well-rounded programme included solos, choral and contemporary music, musicals, vintage and humorous pieces performed with skill and accomplishment.

The ‘Mardi Gras’ element was evident in the sumptuous supper laid on with wine during the interval.

Vicar the Rev Steve Cooper thanked the choir and musicians for a superb evening, and revealed that £500 had been raised towards the development plans for the church and parish.
