Rob’s hat is in ring for top police role
UKIPS police choice: Rob Drobny of Knott End
A former special constable from Over Wyre has been chosen by the United Kingdom Independence Party as its candidate for next month’s poll to choose Lancashire’s police and crime commissioner.
Rob Drobny, 40, of Knott End, will face a fight with at least three other candidates for the post.
Coun Dobney is a member of Preesall Town Council and has served as deputy mayor of Preesall and Knott End three times.
He said: “I served for many years as a special constable in the Blackpool division of Lancashire Constabulary which gave me a good grounding for life and a thorough understanding of the needs and requirements of the police service and serving officers.
“I have until recently been a panel member of Lancashire Police Authority but have resigned in order to run for the office of Police Commissioner.
“My work with the police authority took the form of Independent Custody Visitor, a role involving performing the task of ensuring that all detainees are being held safely at the police station cells.
“I feel I am ideally placed to understand the needs and requirements of all sectors of the communities within Lancashire.
“I am old enough to understand the needs of our more senior members of the county, yet young enough to be able to take on board the opinions and requirements of the younger generation,” said Coun Drobny, who has a young son.
He added: “Having lived and worked all my life in the county I am extremely proud of my roots and relish the opportunity to serve the people of Lancashire in the role of Police Commissioner.”
Coun Drobny spent 12 years working as senior medical photographer and deputy head of department at Blackpool Victoria Hospital before being made redundant.
He has recently obtained a law degree at Huddersfield University and is currently studying for a Masters in Law and Practice.
He has been a member of UKIP since 2005 and is secretary of the Over Wyre branch.
He is involved in charity work in Over Wyre and is a former secretary of the Survivors of Bereavement charity.
Among his policies will be bringing back local beat officers, taking a hard stance on anti-social behaviour, zero tolerance on domestic violence whether against women or men and irrespective of sexual orientation, colour or race and zero tolerance on knife and violent crime.
As previously reported, the other declared candidates in the poll on November 15 are Coun Tim Ashton (Conservative) Coun Clive Grunshaw (Labour) and Afzal Anwar (Liberal Democrat).
