Police investigate links between break-ins at motor garages
Police believe a burglary which took place in Longridge this week is linked to one in Clitheroe during which a charity’s mini bus was stolen.
The two burgaries took place just a week apart, both on Monday nights at garages on industrial estates, the burglars using similar methods.
During last week’s break-in at Sabden Motors on the Brookside Industrial Estate in Clitheroe police say offenders removed an alarm box from the roof of the office before forcing open a fire exit door.
They then searched the premises and loaded £1,000 of tools and a £300 laptop computer into a Volkswagen mini bus belonging to charity “The Little Green Bus” which was in the garage being repaired. They also took the keys and made off in the bus. The raid took place on February 18 between 5pm - 8.50pm.
On Monday (February 25) Burt’s Garage on Longridge’s Shay Lane Industrial Estate was targeted in a similar way at around 10.20pm.
Offenders attacked alarm boxes on the roof before forcing a door open, removing seats from a vehicle on the premises ready to fill with two tool boxes and a child’s off-road motorcycle.
But an alarm is believed to have gone off and the offenders fled the scene without taking the vehicle and its contents, although they did steal £20 of tobacco and cigarettes.
Sgt Dave Simpson said: “This was remarkably similar to the Sabden Motors one in Clitheroe and we beleive it is the same people. We believe they were going to take more, but they were disturbed.”
Police inquiries are continuing into both burglaries and appeals are out for further information call 101.
