A former business landmark in Longridge town centre is to bite the dust if plans for its demolition are given the go-ahead.

But approval of an application to flatten the former Holden’s Auction Rooms would see it replaced by more business development,

A bid to demolish the once busy premises on Towneley Road go before Longridge Town Council tonight (Wednesday).

The application also includes removal of the builders yard premises on the site with the full application requesting permission for the creation of nine light industrial and/or starter business units.

If the plans are approved they would fit in with the stated requirement for more business availability in Longridge, a need voiced by councillors at their last meeting to Peter Crompton, director of the BE Group of surveyors, planners, economic development and regeneration consultants.

As part of the Ribble Valley employment land and premises review, Mr Crompton was asking for the council’s views for potential sites in the town, one of which was suggested as the auction rooms site.

Others were land to the rear of the Chapel Hill waste disposal site, the Forrest site and land to the rear of Sainsbury’s both on Inglewhite Road, opportunities already identified at Shay Lane and land between the Corporation Arms and College Farm on Lower Road.

Mr Crompton explained that his company has been appointed by the Ribble Valley Council to carry out the review of employment land and premises provision within the borough which will form part of the evidence base for the authority’s core strategy examination in July.
