New Bishop for the Fylde coast
New arrival: The Venerable Julian Henderson with his wife, Heather, in front of Blackburn Cathedral
The new Bishop of Blackburn, who is responsible for Church of England churches across the Garstang and Longridge area, has been announced.
The Venerable Julian Henderson, who currently serves as the Archdeacon of Dorking, in Surrey, has been officially appointed to the post.
Archdeacon Henderson, 58, who has previously served at churches is London and Sussex, described his appointment as “extremely humbling”.
He said: “It is an honour to be entrusted with such an important and significant responsibility.
“There is a strong Christian core running through Lancashire, much like the writing in a stick of the famous Blackpool rock.
“I want to build up and encourage my fellow Christians in the region to stand up and speak out for what they believe in and to make a difference where it matters, in peoples’ lives.”
Archdeacon Henderson is married to Heather and has two grown-up children, Susannah, 27 and Jamie, 25.
He was educated at Keble College, Oxford, and has been an ordained priest since 1980.
Away from the church he enjoys gardening, design and DIY, walking, reading, tennis and cycling.
