Eleven year old Georgia Walker has a busy summer ahead of her as she ascends a traditional throne in her home village.
For Georgia will be crowned the festival queen for the annual Goosnargh and Whittingham Whitsuntide event on Saturday, June 1.
And this year it has the additional title of Coronation Jubilee Festival to mark the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s coronation in 1953, plus the event is also celebrating the twinning last year of Goosnargh Festival with the Annapolis Valley Apple Blossom Festival in Nova Scotia.
An excited Georgia said: “I am really lucky to have the chance to be festival queen this year and to represent Goosnargh, with all the opportunities that will open up to me.
“I am also lucky to have such a great family and friends who have already started to help me in any way they can.”
Georgia added that her attendants will be called princesses this year to match those in the Annapolis festival, and dresses had already been chosen for them and her flower girls.
Her best friend, Madeline Warren, will be a princess, and Madeline’s brother, Charlie, is to be the page boy.
“I have ideas for the dresses for the canopy bearers,” said Georgia.
A former pupil at Goosnargh Oliverson’s Primary School, Georgia now attends Broughton College and is the third of John and Julia Walker’s children, her brothers being Daniel, 16, Jack, 10, and eight-year-old Luke.
Her parents ran The Grapes for five years until 2010 and are proud of their daughter’s achievements. “She does everything!” said her dad.
That includes playing netball for the school, cookery, science, plus performing in the school choir and its production of ‘Hairspray’.
She also loves camping with the family and with the 1st Goosnargh Scouts. Her aim is to read science at university.
