Big Weekend set to be better than ever

THE organising team for the third Longridge Big Weekend is hoping to welcome crowds of supporters during the event’s packed four days.

“Each year we get bigger, brighter and better,” said a team member.

“The weekend is run by volunteers in support of Goosnargh and Longridge Agricultural Show (GLASS), Friends of the Civic Hall and the Old Station, and Talking2Minds.”

The weekend’s programme starts on the Thursday, October 11 with a quiz night at St Wilfrid’s Club from 7.30pm, followed by Nordic Walking
at the Civic Hall at 5.30pm, with Angie Harrison, on the Friday.

Also on the Friday, it’s Big Weekend Bingo, again at St Wilfrid’s Club, starting at 8pm with great prizes.

“We are proud to have ZumbaSam, from Blackpool, to do a Zumbathon, which should be great fun,” the team member added.

“Samantha Tamaddon has raised thousands for charity through her Zumbathons, and Zumba is a great way to get fit and enjoy yourself.”

Saturday has the Civic Hall’s Crafty Vintage and Retro Event, with stalls, a crafty corner, music and a café offering something different.

Also different will be a display of vintage vehicles on the Civic Hall car park, and different again on the Saturday afternoon is Deborah and Colin Gornall’s pet show, at the Dog Training Centre at Sandbanks in Cumeragh Lane.

This will be great to show off your pet and perhaps win a photo session or a rosette.

Saturday closes with the After Dark Theatre Company presenting their famous Murder Mystery Night. The theme is Ello, Ello, with a supper, so come in the mood and in the costume.

A top attraction on the Sunday is the third International and Local Food and Craft Festival at the Civic Hall, while the Station Heritage Centre is joining in the weekend with a 1950s theme – go along and see the ‘how we used to live’ exhibition and join in the events.

Craig Brown has agreed to loan some of his retro furniture from his newly opened space in Warwick Street for the exhibition, along with other 1950s items loaned from Longridge people. Emma and the volunteers are working on the exhibition and hope to put on a tea party for everyone, plus Enid Blyton story time for children.

Anyone who would like to help with the exhibition or events would be most welcome to come along to the Station Heritage Centre and chat to Emma and her volunteers.

The team said: “We do hope you will support some or all of our events and the bumper raffle. There is something for everyone.

“If you have a query, or can spare some time to volunteer your help, ring Jean on 01772 780520, and for details see our website www.glashow.org.uk.”

Final details of the programme will be in The Guide section of next week’s News.
