Big reduction in village dog waste
Village litter pickers in Goosnargh and Whittingham report a “dramatic” improvement in dog waste this week.
A voluntary group which scours the villages every Tuesday morning says the improvement has happened since the problem was highlighted in the Longridge News two weeks ago.
In the article, the group appealed to the dog owning community to bin dog waste, or take it home.
This week, litter picker Stephanie Butters says they collected just four bags of dog waste in a road known locally as “The Avenue” at the side of The Stag’s Head, where one week they picked up no less than 40 bags. In the area where they once found 14, there were four bags, and in the rest of the length of the road she reports there were six or seven.
“It is a dramatic improvement,” said Stephanie, adding they would like to thank anyone who read the article and took note, changing the way they are dealing with their dog waste.
As a result of the problem, Preston litter education officer Ann Millne-Riley who visited “The Avenue”n saying she had never seen anything like it, has organised a conference to help educate children, to be held at Oliverson’s School next week.
